Walk Astoria “A to N and Back Again”

This walking route is courtesy of the Angora Hiking Club. Everyone is welcome to join the Angora Hiking Club hikes. The AHC members plan usually four hikes per month and the schedule of group hikes is listed at angorahikingclub.org. 

On Astoria’s north side, the streets are alphabetical.  This walk will take you from Astor to Niagara and back again.  The walk will pass a court house, a college, and a cemetery.  From the top you can also see a lighthouse.
Park at the lot at 7^th and Astor in front of the North Coast Dialysis Clinic.  12 parking spaces closest to Marine Dr. are designated for public parking. The nearest public restroom is at the Astoria Transit Center, 2 blocks east.

Walking directions:

1. From parking lot, turn right to Astor.  Astor was once known for its bordellos.
2. Left on Astor to 9^th.
3. Right on 9^th to Marine Dr.  On the left is Astoria’s transportation center.
4. Right on Marine, cross at crosswalk to planter.  Turn right to carefully cross Marine (8^th) to Bond.  Bond was once the center of Astoria’s Chinese district.
5. Right on Bond to 7^th, then left to Commercial,
6. Left on Commercial (Post Office on left, Courthouse on right) to 8^th.
7. Right on 8^th to Duane and right again (Court House on right, Flavel Mansion on left).
8. Left on 7^th to Exchange, cross Exchange and take the path up the hill.
9. Left on Franklin to 9^th (cross 8^th very carefully).
10. Right on 9^th to Grand.
11. Left on Grand to 12^th.
12. At 12^th and Grand, go straight up path behind church building.  You will come out on Grand again!
13. As you exit the path, continue up the street to Harrison and turn right.
14. Left on 11^th to Irving.  Cross Irving and up the “pigeon steps” to Jerome.
15. Right on Jerome to 9^th and left up the path to Kensington.
16. Left on Kensington to 10^th; right on 10^th to Lexington.
17. Left on Lexington to 11^th; right on 11^th past Madison (signs, but no road).
18. Left on Niagara to 14^th St.
19. Left on 14^th to Madison; left to end of road and retrace your steps, but continue straight on Madison until it reaches 15^th.
20. Left on 15^th to Lexington and carefully cross 15^th Street.
21. Right on Lexington through the Clatsop Community College campus.
22. After passing library on the left, turn left into the parking lot.  At midway point of parking lot, turn left on path (there’s a light pole and “No parking” area).
23. Follow path and stairs to Jerome, turn left, and carefully cross 16^th St.
24. At “Astoria Column” sign (15^th and Jerome), take path to right down to Irving.
25. Left on Irving to 12^th; right on 12^th to Harrison.
26. Left on Harrison to 11^th; right on 11^th to Grand.
27. Left on Grand to 10^th; right on 10^th to Franklin.
28. Left on Franklin to 8^th, passing Exchange, Duane and Commercial.
29. At 8^th and Marine Dr., carefully cross at crosswalk to planter and then to north side of Marine.
30. Left on Marine Dr. to parking lot.
