This message is a part of our insider's perspective series offering a sneak peek into what those of us who are lucky to call this place home do on the daily. Authored by Stacey, who is a business owner that actively volunteers with several organizations, including the Lower Columbia Tourism Committee. Stacey shares how she celebrates the season of love in Astoria and Warrenton, including her favorite winter highlights.

Spread the Love

Love is about connection, kindness, and celebrating the people, places, and moments that bring us joy. In February, let's celebrate togetherness with "Spread the Love," a month-long event in Astoria. Shops and eateries will share their favorite local businesses on social media, offer special discounts, and host events to bring the community together. Look for glowing pink neon hearts in store windows as a symbol of love across town. Join us in the spirit by leaving chalk hearts on sidewalks, writing heartfelt notes, or gifting someone a smile. For a lasting memory, visit Pier 39 Astoria to hang a Love Lock on the dedicated installation. This is available year-round.

Whether you’re a local or just passing through, you’re invited to join this joyful celebration. How will you spread the love this month? From small acts of gratitude to grand displays of affection, every gesture helps make Astoria—and the world—a brighter place. Let’s share the love—together.

Warm Your Body, Mind and Soul

Though the Oregon coast maintains a mild climate, January still brings a chill, with Astoria’s average high around 50°F and over 10 inches of rainfall. The long, dark nights and cloudy skies inspire locals to find creative ways to stay warm and bright—and we invite you to join us this winter!

Did you know Astoria is home to more than a dozen galleries? Plus, many coffee shops and businesses display local art on their walls. The Astoria Downtown Historic District Association hosts Art Walk every second Saturday, where galleries unveil new exhibits with live entertainment and more. You're sure to find a piece that speaks to your heart.

Expand your horizons with creative classes or lecture series—whether it’s hot yoga, dance fitness, or a terrarium-building party, Astoria and Warrenton offer diverse opportunities for mind and body enrichment. Don’t miss the Past to Present Lecture Series at the Columbia River Maritime Museum or one of our monthly rotating speaker series. Trivia nights, too, are a local favorite and can be found at several locations!

Craving comfort food? Astoria and Warrenton have you covered with everything from food carts to cozy restaurants serving globally inspired-cuisine. In the winter, we love spicy dishes at Tres Bro's Savory Nicaragua or Nisa's Thai Kitchen, a table with a view at Bridgewater Bistro, or a hearty breakfast at Arnie's Cafe.

Cozy Winter Date Activities

As the Scandinavian saying goes, "There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing." So grab your raincoat and boots, and embrace "muddy boot season" on one of our local trails. Keep an eye out for migrating birds and even bald eagles, now easier to spot with fewer leaves on the trees.

For storm-watching enthusiasts, experience the power of winter waves from the Peter Iredale overlook or Seafarer’s Park at Hammond Marina—both offering views from the warmth of your car.

Prefer staying indoors? At the Heritage Museum, explore the history of Clatsop County through temporary and permanent exhibits featuring Native Americans, early pioneers, immigrants, and local industries. Visit the Historic Area at Fort Stevens State Park to explore the role of this coastal defense fort that saw active service from the Civil War through WWII.
